Dr. Sharon Stephenson is a retired obstetrics and gynecology physician who spent her career in private practice in Cary, North Carolina. A native of Benson, she graduated from Meredith College, earned an MS in Medical Genetics from Indiana University, and received her medical degree from the UNC School of Medicine. She completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of Cincinnati.
During her years in private practice, Sharon held several leadership roles at WakeMed Cary. She also served as both a board member and president of the Women’s Health Alliance, an affiliation of several OB/GYN practices in the Triangle. In addition, she played an active role in the merger of multiple OB/GYN practices across North Carolina as part of an affiliation with Unified Healthcare. |
Sharon’s connection to Pamlico County began early. She grew up attending Camp Don Lee and, beginning in the early 1990s, she and her husband regularly visited Oriental for sailing. They moved to Pamlico County full‑time in 2017 following retirement. Since then, Sharon has been deeply engaged in community service, including volunteering with the COVID Community Task Force. She currently serves on the Pamlico County Health Advisory Board and holds several leadership roles within her church.
